This generator is focused on working on pre-reading and exercising visuospatial skills and selective attention.
What does this activity for working on pre-reading involve?
Children will have to search among a group of rotated letters for the indicated letter and point out those that are the same as the requested model, regardless of whether the letter is rotated or not.
Some letters are recognized very easily and can be distinguished from others without problems, but there are cases where it is not so easy, especially when they are rotated (for example a/e, V/Y or s/z).
Below, we show you an example of the children’s pre-reading activity Rotated Letters:
What does this activity work on?
This pre-reading exercise targets:
- Visuospatial skills: a wide variety of letters are presented and the child has to analyze each one in order to mentally rotate them until they can identify the letters that are the same as the model.
- Attention: the child must be able to correctly identify the letters similar to the model, ignoring the rest of the distracting letters.
Customization of the activity
You can create customized phases to adapt them to each child’s specific needs.
Parameters
In this generator we can define some parameters of the activity such as:
- The number of letters,
- number of target stimuli (how many identical letters must be found),
- presentation: linear or unordered,
- aids: different colors for the letters or not,
- letter options
- uppercase, lowercase
- similarity between elements (high or low) or customized (specify which letter is the model and which letter is the distractor)
General aspects
You can choose other general aspects such as:
- How it works,
- maximum time,
- whether or not you want a visible timer for the activity,
- whether or not you want to include an inactivity warning,
- modify the instructions for performing the activity.
Languages
You can work on this activity in digital and paper formats in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and Catalan.
