NeuronUP champions the importance of occupational therapy and of its professionals on World Occupational Therapist Day.
Today, October 27, we celebrate the World Occupational Therapist Day, and from our cognitive rehabilitation platform we want to reaffirm the importance of occupational therapy and its professionals in rehabilitation and stimulation processes to achieve the maximum functionality of people with any type of physical, cognitive, or behavioral limitation.
What is occupational therapy?
According to the World Health Organization, occupational therapy “is the set of techniques, methods and actions that, through activities applied for therapeutic purposes, prevents disease and maintains health, promotes the restoration of function, compensates for disabling deficiencies and assesses the assumptions of behavior and its profound significance to achieve the greatest possible independence and reintegration of the individual in all aspects: work, mental, physical and social”.
At NeuronUP we believe it is essential to dispel the idea that some people still have that occupational therapy is simply to entertain people and assert that occupational therapists work to achieve the maximum functionality of people with any type of physical, cognitive, behavioral limitation, or a combination of them.
What is the goal of the occupational therapist?
The main objective of the occupational therapist is to enable people to return to participate in activities of daily living. To this end, the occupational therapist must first assess the person’s physical, mental and social condition. And, once the needs have been identified, provide them with a personalized treatment tailored to their condition in order to help them achieve the highest level of autonomy.
Occupational therapy is a fundamental discipline for increasing autonomy and the quality of life of patients and today it’s time to champion it so that more and more people become aware of the usefulness of this still little-known profession.
