The NeuronUP platform continues to grow with new resources designed for pediatric neurorehabilitation. In this context, we are pleased to introduce two new digital activities specifically created to train episodic memory in children in a targeted and progressive way:
Where are the cats? and Where are the cats? (free memorization time).
These two exercises, available in three difficulty levels (easy, medium, and hard), aim to support the therapeutic work carried out by professionals in the treatment of developmental or acquired cognitive disorders.
Episodic memory: a cornerstone of cognitive development
Episodic memory refers to the ability to recall personal experiences within their spatial and temporal context. It plays a key role in acquiring new knowledge, building autobiographical narratives, and developing executive functions.
For children, training this ability is particularly relevant in the treatment of:
- neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disorders…)
- acquired neurological damage,
- or as part of preventive or compensatory cognitive training.
Activity 1: Where are the cats?
In this game, the child sees several cats placed on the screen, which they must memorize within a limited time. Once the cats are hidden in boxes, the goal is to find their original locations.
Cognitive skill targeted:
- Episodic memory
Therapeutic goals:
- Encourage active encoding of spatial information in a playful context
- Stimulate retrieval abilities under time constraints
- Offer a mediation tool adapted for children, with an engaging visual interface
Activity 2: Where are the cats? (free memorization time)
This version follows the same core concept as the first activity, with one main difference: the exposure time to the stimuli is unlimited. The child can take as much time as needed to memorize the scene before the cats are hidden.
Clinical benefits:
- Adapted for children with slower processing speed
- Gradual introduction to the task before adding time constraints
- Personalized cognitive training based on the child’s profile
Three levels of complexity for gradual training
Both activities are available in three levels (easy, medium, hard), enabling personalized progression. This gradient provides professionals with a flexible tool to match each patient’s cognitive level and monitor their progress throughout the sessions.
Integration into clinical practice
These games can be used in various intervention settings:
- Individual or small group neurorehabilitation sessions
- In-office, at school, or remotely via the digital version
- Targeted work on episodic memory as part of a broader therapeutic program
They are an effective complementary support to traditional therapeutic approaches, while maintaining high engagement from young patients thanks to a fun interface.
