Ximena Gutiérrez y Gabriela López, psychologist and a graduate in Human Communication, respectively, from the center Terapias para todos, explain their experience carrying out online neuropsychological intervention with NeuronUP in a case with developmental delay.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world had to make important changes in many ways. The Centro Terapias para todos located in Mexico City was no exception, since we had to adapt to online therapies. With this, the search and integration of online resources began. With the goal that the population attending our center would not experience setbacks in the conditions and diagnoses they have.
In this search for materials and resources we came across NeuronUP, a tool that enables an appropriate cognitive intervention according to the needs of each patient. The use of this tool has allowed us to see very positive progress in our population, such is the case of “E”, a fictitious name we will give to one of our patients.
“E” is a patient diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder, this disorder brings with it the manifestation of different alterations in language, learning, attention, memory, executive functions, as well as an impact on social and emotional aspects. Therefore, pausing their intervention during this contingency period was not a viable option, since setbacks could occur in all these areas.
Online neuropsychological intervention with “E”
With the help of apps for video calls we began the online neuropsychological intervention with “E” in April 2020.
In addition to reinforcing the cognitive area; it allowed us a better intervention both in emotional and behavioral aspects such as tolerance to frustration, turn-taking and following instructions.
First month
In the first month of intervention, we began by stimulating the attentional areas (selective and sustained) and impulse control. It is worth mentioning that the activities were at a basic-easy level, and each had a short duration.
Second month of the online neuropsychological intervention
By the second month, with the intervention on the NeuronUP platform a significant improvement in attentional aspects began to be observed. This prompted us to continue with the other areas of opportunity in the minor. These were focused on executive functions such as reasoning, working memory and processing speed, which were started at basic levels.
Third month
During this third month, “E” continues with their online sessions reinforcing attentional areas, which are already at an acceptable level for their developmental age. The working memory and processing speed have also shown very good progress.
Likewise, there is an improvement in social cognition, planning, impulse control, as well as alternating attention and mental flexibility.
Conclusion of the online neuropsychological intervention with “E”
Enjoys and stimulates cognitive areas
“E” enjoys their scheduled sessions in NeuronUP. Therefore, it not only allows “E” to enjoy and play with the activities, but at the same time it stimulates the cognitive areas. And for us as specialists it allows us to adapt their sessions according to the performance and progress of the minor.

Finally, although soon there will be the possibility of holding in-person sessions at Terapias para todos, we do not want to abandon the use of this tool, since in addition to being fun it offers a lot of material ideal for the effective intervention of patients.
